Many people will know Billie Holiday's chilling performance of the song "Strange Fruit," one of the great American songs of the 20th century and a strident, poetic protest of racism. Our friend Marc Meyers over at JazzWax runs a feature today that takes a look at the 1945 dramatic production of the same name -- although the author of the book and the play claimed no inspirational connection between the story and the song.
